The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has continued the rollout of its Phase 4 slate with Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder. The film essentially follows Thor’s (Chris Hemsworth) adventures after the events of Avengers: Endgame as he journeys across the universe while trying to find some inner peace.
The film also represents a major milestone for Hemsworth as he officially becomes the only Marvel star to have four solo films in the MCU. And with the fourth film already out, fans are certainly eager to know what’s next. In fact, many are already asking about the possibility of a Thor 5.
Thor: Love And Thunder Is The ‘Craziest’ Movie Chris Hemsworth Has Ever Done
Hemsworth is a longtime Marvel veteran with this Thor surviving the blip and almost successfully killing Thanos (Josh Brolin). As far as the MCU is concerned, the actor has seen a lot. However, nothing could have prepared him for Waititi’s vision for the fourth Thor installment after the two first teamed up for Thor: Ragnarok.
“It’s the craziest thing [Waititi has] ever done. I think that’s what is part of the fun of the journey for the audience is just the twist and the turns it takes,” Hemsworth said. “You think it’s going this way, and it turns this way, and the unexpected kind of on-the-edge-of-your-seat sort of nature it has is pretty fantastic.”
The latest Thor movie also features the franchise’s largest ensemble yet as it features the Guardians of the Galaxy (Chris Pratt, Karen Gillan, Dave Bautista, Pom Klementieff, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel), Jaimie Alexander’s Lady Sif, Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie, and Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster who has also been revealed as female Thor.
Not to mention, the film also stars Marvel newcomers Christian Bale and Russell Crowe. In addition, there are also expected cameos from Melissa McCarthy, Ben Falcone, and of course, Matt Damon.
Chris Hemsworth Would Love To Play Thor For As Long As Possible
For now, little is known about the future of Thor in the MCU beyond this movie. Nonetheless, Hemsworth remains hopeful that Thor’s adventures would continue for years to come. “I love it, I love it. I’ll come back for more and more until someone kicks me off the stage, you know. I love it,” the actor said.
“My whole career has been based around me playing this character and to come back again and again and play it with different directors and different casts has been an absolute joy. And, yeah, we’ll see what the fans want, and I don’t know, I’m down for whatever is enjoyable and having a good time.”
Now, rumors have also been circulating that this may be Hemsworth’s final outing with Marvel. In response to this, the actor did admit that he has no idea what the future holds for him in the MCU. “Every time I play Thor, I’m like, ‘This is the last time they let me do it,’” Hemsworth said. “So I don’t know.”
Kevin Feige Believes They Haven’t Covered ‘All The Great Thor Stories’ Yet
And while no plans have been announced about another Thor movie so far, it appears that Marvel boss Kevin Feige hasn’t ruled out the possibility either. “There are these things called comic books that have a lot of stories in them. And that’s where all of our stories come from,” he explained during a press conference. “And if the question [is], ‘Have you told all the great Thor stories from the comics and movies?’, the answer is no. There are lots of them.”
Feige has also hinted that they’re interested to continue working with Hemsworth for as long as possible. “And I’ve always said our interest in making additional stories is somewhat about continuing the character, [but] it’s almost entirely about continuing the experience with the actor… I think of all of our cast not as their individual characters, but as the Marvel players who within that character can grow and evolve and change,” he continued.
At the same time, Feige also teased the possibility of introducing other versions of Thor as he pointed out that “there are plenty of other incarnations of Thor that we have that we have yet to see.” Marvel explored something similar in the Disney+ series Loki, which revealed the existence of Alligator Loki, Kid Loki (Jack Veal), Classic Loki (Richard E. Grant), Boastful Loki (Deobia Oparei), and of course, Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino), the female Loki.
In addition, Benedict Cumberbatch ended up playing multiverse versions of himself in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (including a zombie Doctor Strange). The movie also revealed the existence of at least one other Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) too.
Following Thor: Love and Thunder, it is entirely possible for Hemsworth to return to the MCU at some point in the future. Perhaps, there may also be an alligator Thor. Anything’s possible in Marvel.
