Two people were shot and killed Saturday morning near one of the El Rey Hispanic grocery stores in Milwaukee, police said.
The fatal shooting occurred in the 900 block of South Cesar E Chavez Road. The shooting follows two homicides Friday night in Milwaukee that were also caused by shootings.
Police said around 11:15 a.m. that an investigation into the shooting was “fluid” but did not elaborate.
Witnesses near the scene said they heard multiple gunshots shortly after 11 a.m. and that the incident started inside the store then moved into the parking lot where two people fell down.
Other media reports indicate there was a shootout between someone trying to steal from the store and an El Rey security guard, but police have not confirmed any details and declined to speak to a reporter on scene.
Milwaukee has seen at least 112 homicides so far in 2022. The city is on track to break its homicide total for the third consecutive year, continuing an alarming trend.
