If you’re a fan of the MCU, then you’ve undoubtedly spent time admiring the work of the Russo brothers. They’ve revealed a lot about their time with Marvel, giving fans the low down on making huge hits. The duo had a hand in Marvel’s biggest films, and they have left a lasting legacy with fans.
It was announced that the guys are back, and they’re taking their talents to Netflix. They’re known to work with MCU veterans, and while that could still come into play, the film’s star has been doing great work on Stranger Things for years.
Let’s take a look at the film that’s still in development!
The Russo Brothers Did Amazing Work With Marvel
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been a dominant force since 2008, and while many directors have gotten their chance at superhero movie immortality, none of them were able to be as successful as the Russos.
The brothers made their debut with 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and that film set the tone for what they would continue to deliver.
Following that blockbuster debut, the Russos crafted three more MCU films: Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. All those films made over $1 billion globally, with two of them hitting the $2 billion mark.
It’s been several years since those major hits, and they’ve stayed busy since. They directed Cherry, which starred MCU veteran Tom Holland, and they also directed The Gray Man, which featured Captain America actor, Chris Evans. That first movie wasn’t nearly as big as the Avengers movies, but it had some good things going for it. The Gray Man, meanwhile, is set for release in July, and fans are excited to see the most expensive movie in Netflix history.
Recently, the brothers made news when it was announced that they were getting behind the camera to direct a new feature.
Their Next Feature Will Be On Netflix
Instead of heading back to their old stomping grounds with Marvel, the Russos are heading to Netflix, and they are taking on a fresh project with a lot of potential.
The film, titled Electric Street, likely won’t see a release for quite some time, but the premise alone sounds great.
“The film is based on adaptation of the illustrated novel by Simon Stålenhag and is set in a retro-futuristic past, where an orphaned teenager (Brown) traverses the American West with a sweet but mysterious robot and an eccentric drifter in search of her younger brother. Angela Russo-Otstot, Jake Aust, Geoff Haley, Markus and McFeely are exec producing,” Deadline reports.
The site also mentioned that the streaming giant had their eyes on this project for a while now, and that things should be getting underway in the fall. This is exciting news for fans of the Russos, who are excited for their next major project.
As you’d expect, the Russo Brothers are bringing on excellent talent, and the first name attached to the project is a big one.
‘Stranger Things’ Star Millie Bobby Brown Is On Board
According to People, “Millie Bobby Brown is teaming up with the Russo brothers for her next film project. The 18-year-old Stranger Things star is slated to appear in the upcoming Netflix film The Electric State, from Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo, according to multiple outlets including The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline.”
The actress has done amazing work on Stranger Things through the years, and she’s also gotten to flex her abilities in some other projects, as well. She’s been in two Godzilla films, as well as Enola Holmes, which was a runaway success on Netflix.
Given her history on Netflix, she seems like a natural fit for the project, and clearly, the Russos see the talent she has.
It’s not yet confirmed, but an MCU veteran could be starring in the movie, also.
“There are currently no other cast members attached, but it has been reported that Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt (incidentally another movie involving Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely) is currently in talks to star alongside Brown,” MovieWeb writes.
Pairing Brown and Pratt would instantly give the project a lot of name value, which could play a part in boosting its streaming numbers once it does make its was onto Netflix down the road.
Fans cannot wait to see the Russo Brothers back in action, even if it’s outside the world of Marvel. Getting Millie Bobby Brown was simply the icing on the cake.
