SVU’ Stars Mariska Hargitay & Christopher Meloni Tease Romance

During their time on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Christopher Meloni and Mariska Hargitay’s chemistry was undeniable. It’s the reason so many fans ship their characters, Detectives Stabler and Benson, together.

There’s been a will-they-won’t-they dynamic between the actors’ onscreen characters for years, with things heating up again since Christopher has begun making appearances again in the franchise. But it appears their chemistry extends past the television show, as Mariska’s recent comments reveal about their personal relationship.

Mariska Calls Their Chemistry “Effortless” & “Weird”

During pre-show interviews for the Emmy’s, the television stars opened up about what it was like to work together after Christopher left Law & Order: SVU as a regular lead in 2011.

When asked what it was like to work with Mariska again after a decade, Christopher said, “Never been better […] I mean if you had told me I’d have the career I have at this time in … the twilight of my life.”

The duo were then questioned about their onscreen chemistry, specifically how they continue to keep a spark after so many years of working alongside each other.

We’re very lucky,” Christopher said. Mariska chimed in, saying, “As effortless, and it’s weird, and I always look at it as some sort of gift. So much of it has to do with our shared sense of humor, shared perspective, our now history.”

The co-stars also admitted they never get tired of each other. “Never once!” Mariska exclaimed, adding, “I love him.”

Mariska Met Her Real-Life Husband On The ‘Law & Order’ Set

Christopher and Mariska don’t deny they have good chemistry, and while many fans would love to see the real-life actors together, the pair’s relationship has seemingly never turned romantic.

For her part, Mariska has been married for nearly two decades. She met her husband Peter Hermann in the early days of filming Law & Order: SVU, when he played a recurring role as attorney Trevor Langan. The couple married in 2004 and are now parents to four children.

Christopher has been married even longer. He and his wife, production designer Sherman Williams, tied the knot in 1995 and share two children.

Although fans may never see Christopher and Mariska together in real-life, there’s a good chance that Stabler and Benson could take the plunge in the next SVU season given how their onscreen storyline has been progressing.
