Is There Absolutely Any Chance That These Are The New Cast Members Of Yellowjackets Season Two?

The already-confirmed second season of Showtime’s Yellowjackets might be a long time coming, but fans might ease the wait with an exciting game of fantasy casting for the upcoming chapter.

The series follows an all-female high school soccer team in 1996’s New Jersey whose plane crashes on the way to a national tournament. As they will have to fend off for themselves in a hostile, maybe supernatural environment, we are soon informed the team dynamics are in for a dramatic shakeup and not everyone will make it out of the woods alive. 25 years later, four of the protagonists are threatened by a mysterious blackmailer.

Created by Ashley Nyle and Bart Nickerson, the coming-of-age survival drama premiered in November last year, introducing the titular female soccer team to the world in two different timelines. Two sets of actresses play the same characters at different ages, rather than having the younger stars aged up thanks to visual effects. The ambitious dual-timeline casting — the work of casting directors Junie Lowry-Johnson and Libby Goldstein — must’ve not been easy to pull off, but ended up being one of the show’s best traits.

1990s and 2000s icons Christina Ricci, Juliette Lewis, Melanie Lynskey and Tawny Cypress portray adult Misty, Natalie, Shauna, and Taissa, while the 1996 versions of the same characters are played by Sammi Hanratty, Sophie Thatcher, Sophie Nélisse and Jasmin Savoy Brown. Not only is the physical resemblance uncanny, but the younger actresses channel their older counterparts’ essence in an almost spooky fashion. Which, if you’ve watched the series, makes total sense with its general mood.

So far, we’ve met just four of the 40-year-old Yellowjackets, meaning there is the potential to introduce more adult characters in the second season. Let’s look at the older actors who might join the cast moving forward.

Spoilers for the first season of Yellowjackets ahead

7 Yellowjackets Cast: Sarah Snook Might Play Adult Van

Van is the stubborn, optimistic goalie of the team, played by Australian star Liv Hewson, who has also appeared in the defunct Santa Clarita Diet opposite Drew Barrymore.

We might not have seen adult Van just yet, but we absolutely want her to survive. Van has proved to be a warrior in season one: she didn’t just survive the crash, but she also managed to escape when Shauna and Jackie (Army of the Dead’s Ella Purnell) left her behind as the plane was engulfed in flames. As if that wasn’t enough, her face was half-mauled by a wolf and, still, she persisted.

A ginger actress is not a must, but if we’re throwing names into the ring based on looks, Succession protagonist Sarah Snook seems a perfect fit. Copper mane aside, Snook and Hewson are both Australian. Not that the Aussie accent can be heard in the show given that Van is from Jersey, but having an Australia actress for older Van would be a nice touch.

As for previous characters, Snook plays Shiv Roy, the queen of plotting and scheming on HBO’s acclaimed Succession, a role which may provide some useful ground should Van decide to jeopardize Taissa’s senator campaign. The two now-exes might have some unfinished business, after all.

6 Lauren Ambrose Could Be Adult Van In Yellowjackets Season Two

Another redheaded star for Van, the Servant actress is well-used to creepy atmospheres thanks to the M. Night Shyamalan-produced AppleTV+ series. Age-wise, Ambrose would be a better fit than the younger Snook, joining the rest of the 40-something stars as the adult characters.

If Yellowjackets’ casting directors are looking to cast a 1990s/2000s star once again, Ambrose would make a great choice given her stint in teen comedy Can’t Hardly Wait and horror Psycho Beach Party.

The actress had her big break with HBO’s beloved Six Feet Under, in which she played the role of Claire Fisher, whose rebellious nature might be just right to revisit for Van.

5 Yellowjackets’ Van Could Be Played By Donna Lynne Champlin

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend star Donna Lynne Champlin is also a potential name for Van. Off the stage, the ginger Broadway star is best known for the role of no-nonsense Paula in The CW comedy opposite Rachel Bloom.

The character’s blunt but ultimately caring approach might mirror that of Van. And if the goalie decided to pivot her career and turn to music, Champlin would be 100% right for the role.

4 Yellowjackets Cast: Olivia Munn Could Play Adult Lottie

Now, this is a character we will definitely see in Yellowjackets season two, as it has been confirmed by the showrunners. However, it means nothing good for Shauna, Taissa, Natalie and Misty judging from what we’ve seen so far.

Lottie (Courtney Eaton) might be the villain of the upcoming installment and could be played by Olivia Munn in the present timeline. The actress is no stranger to supernatural horror stories, having starred in 2014’s Deliver Us From Evil.

She even practiced sword fighting for her role in X-Men: Apocalypse, which is a handy skill Lottie might use in whatever weird cult-y situation she might be involved in 2021.

As for her survival skills, Munn is set to star in one of the upcoming The Walking Dead spin-offs, Tales of the Walking Dead, which has the same post-apocalyptic allure as Yellowjackets.

3 Shannyn Sossamon Could Be Adult Lottie In A New Season Of Yellowjackets

Similar to Ambrose, Shannyn Sossamon has starred in a streak of 1990s/2000s films as the cool, mysterious girl, a background that could translate well into adult Lottie. But there’s more.

In 2015, the 40 Days and 40 Nights star appeared in the disturbing, uneven series Wayward Pines opposite Juliette Lewis, who plays Natalie in Yellowjackets. It would make a nice reunion to have Sossamon on the show, not to mention that the actress does look a lot like Eaton.

2 Yellowjackets Fantasy Cast: Wilmer Valderrama As Adult Javi

There’s at least one male character we might get to see in the present: Javi Martinez, the youngest son of coach Martinez.

Played by Luciano Leroux, the shy Javi appears to be missing from the 2021 timeline. But Yellowjackets might surprise fans with a comeback, potentially giving the role to NCIS Hawai’i and The ’70s Show star Wilmer Valderrama.

Valderrama exudes “nice guy,” which might work just fine for the youngest and quietest of the Yellowjackets pack.

1 Tyler Posey Could Play Adult Javi In Yellowjackets Season Two

Teen Wolf star Tyler Posey could also be a good candidate for the role of Javi.

Firstly, his age difference with the rest of the cast would better mirror that between Javi and the soccer team. He could also nail the whole scarred-for-life vibe as he has starred in the series Scream: Resurrection and horror films Truth or Dare and Alone.

Of course, Javi might never make it to the present. A second season might shed some light on the character’s fate, clarifying whether he actually made it out of the wilderness. And if he did, was he indeed Shauna’s younger lover Adam, as a popular fan theory seems to suggest? In both cases, we will never see him again, following that deadly twist in episode nine.
