Olivia Wilde’s new film, Don’t Worry Darling starring her boyfriend Harry Styles and Florence Pugh has been surrounded by so much drama, even during production. Shia LaBeouf was initially set to play Styles’ role but was fired due to his method’s “combative energy,” implying that Pugh was uncomfortable working with him.

But recently, LaBeouf denied being fired and said that he “quit the film due to lack of rehearsal time.” Now, Wilde refuses to answer questions related to the incident during press conferences. Text messages between LaBeouf and Pugh also prove that there’s no bad blood between them. Now, the latter’s absence in press junkets has fueled more speculations…

How The ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ Drama Started

It all started in 2021 when news broke that Wilde and Styles had started dating while filming Don’t Worry Darling. Then in April 2022, Wilde was served custody papers from her ex-partner Jason Sudeikis while she was onstage promoting the film at CinemaCon. “In any other workplace, it would be seen as an attack,” the filmmaker said. “It was really upsetting. It shouldn’t have been able to happen.”

It was also rumored that Pugh and Wilde were feuding. The former shared a post-production tribute on Instagram thanking the crew but not the cast and the director. Later in July 2022, a source said that the Black Widow star was not happy seeing Styles and Wilde “all over each other on set.” Fans grew more suspicious when Pugh admitted that she wasn’t pleased to have been “reduced to [her] sex scenes” when Wilde previously said they were fundamental to the story.

It didn’t stop there. Later on, insiders claimed that the Watermelon Sugar performer was “earning three times more” than Pugh. The director slammed the rumors in an email to Variety. “I’m a woman who has been in this business for over 20 years, and it’s something that I have fought for myself and others, especially being a director,” Wilde wrote. “There is absolutely no validity to those claims.”

These ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ Stars Looked Uncomfortable During Press Conference

During their recent press conference at the Venice Film Festival, Pine was caught looking like he was in agony sitting through the interview. After his meme-worthy reactions went viral, fans noticed that his co-star Gemma Chan also looked like she wanted to leave as the rest of the cast talked about the movie.

Instagram satirist, Saint Hoax posted a compilation of videos and memes featuring the drama surrounding the cast’s behavior in Venice. “The chaos surrounding Don’t Worry Darling should be turned into its own movie,” they wrote.

Fans agreed that it seemed like Pine had had enough of his co-stars, particularly Styles. “He looked over at Chris when he started that mess like he was gonna give him that head nod off that nonsense 😂” a fan wrote of the singer who appeared to have bored Pine during the interview.

A Redditor also noted that during the press conference, Wilde dodged all questions about the film’s controversies. “Olivia was asked about Florence and the rumors about the falling out,” they wrote. “She didn’t really answer the question. ‘Florence is a force…’ (the moment they were asked about the falling out).”

Harry Styles Might Have Spit On ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ Co-Star, Chris Pine

After Pine’s visibly bored state during Style’s speeches in the interviews, the latter appeared to have spit on the former before sitting next to him during the screening. But according to reps for the Star Trek actor, the One Direction alum “did not spit” on him. “This is a ridiculous story — a complete fabrication and the result of an odd online illusion that is clearly deceiving and allows for foolish speculation,” the spokesperson told People.

“Just to be clear, Harry Styles did not spit on Chris Pine,” they continued. “There is nothing but respect between these two men and any suggestion otherwise is a blatant attempt to create drama that simply does not exist.” Still, fans find it odd that Pugh skipped the press conference and was seated far from Wilde during the premiere. The two didn’t interact the entire time. It also seemed like Styles was avoiding his girlfriend during the event…

One thing’s for sure — fans are now invested in the drama and will surely check out the film when it comes to US theaters on September 23, 2022.
