Harris first considered a career in law but decided to work as an editorial assistant at Vanity Fair for a year instead. After that, she moved to CBS to work on their TV series Central Park West. 

Although the show was not successful, she was able to join HBO when it folded.

Harris was a co-producer for the HBO romantic sitcom Sex and the City and wrote episodes “Ring A Ding Ding” and “Hop, Skip and a Week.” 

In 2005, she was the producer for the HBO comedy-drama series The Comeback. She wrote the episode “Valerie Gets a Magazine Cover” for the show’s second season, which aired nine years after the initial debut.

In 2006, Harris co-wrote the romantic comedy film Just My Luck. She was then the executive producer of the 2008 web series Puppy Love and went on to write Gone to the Dogs (2008) and Whose Dog is it Anyway? (2009). 

In 2012, Harris wrote the AOL On Network web series Fetching. Harris was also a consulting producer for teen drama Gossip Girl, where she wrote episodes “Memoirs of an Invisible Dan” and “Cross Rhodes.”

Harris was the executive producer of The Carrie Diaries from 2013 until it was canceled in 2014. He developed the project at The CW and wrote several episodes, including “Win Some, Lose Some.”

Amy signed a two-year deal with ABC Studios in 2015 to develop new projects for the network. 

As showrunner and executive producer for ABC Network’s crime anthology series Wicked City, she aired in 2015 but was pulled after three episodes. The remaining five episodes were made available on Hulu later that year. 

For ABC’s 2016 series Designated Survivor, she was originally showrunner and executive producer but left when the creative direction of the series changed. In 2019, her association with ABC was renewed for two years.
